Our urban forest is one of Colwood’s most cherished assets and defining qualities.
Our community recognizes the wide array of environmental, social, and economic benefits of trees and the tree canopy. However, the City’s urban forest is affected by multiple stressors including expanding development, tree disease and root rot, and climate change.
The City is working to find a balance between vital tree protection and creation of new amenities that offer community benefits: housing, transportation routes, shops, services, and more.
Help create a Colwood Urban Forest Strategy
The Urban Forest Strategy will provide a vision, goals, objectives, and recommendations for protecting and managing the urban forest.
Work to date has included review of background information, an analysis of the health and distribution of the urban forest and its change in recent years, forecasting of the tree canopy, and preliminary recommendations. Workshops were held with the tree care industry and environmental groups. The City now hopes to receive input from the community to help shape the final strategy.
Review the Draft Colwood Urban Forest Strategy in the document section of this page.
Sharing your input will help to ensure the strategy reflects the community’s vision and meets local interests and needs.
