Retrofit Goals, Priorities & Strategies

Introduction

The City of Colwood is developing a Building Retrofit Strategy to encourage home and building energy retrofits.

  • What do we mean by building retrofits? Building retrofits reduce a building’s energy use and greenhouse gas emissions while enhancing its climate resilience. This includes shifting mechanical systems for space and hot water heating from gas to electric, and improving the building envelope (e.g., adding insulation, upgrading windows and doors, air sealing).

  • How are building retrofits beneficial? Retrofitting can reduce GHG emissions that contribute to climate change, lower energy costs, improve comfort and health, help buildings handle extreme weather better, and increase the quality and value of buildings.

  • I already filled out a survey in the summer. How is this different? In July, we sent a survey about barriers and opportunities to retrofits. Now, we are presenting draft set of goals, priorities and strategies and hope for your feedback.

  • How will my input be used? By completing this survey, you can help shape how the City will take action to support retrofit adoption for residents and businesses in the community.

  • Who is the survey for? This survey is for residents (homeowners and renters)building or business owners, and property managers of buildings in the City of Colwood.
