Exploring a Community Garden at Lagoon West Park

A Community Garden is being explored for a portion of Lagoon West Park (see map). This is intended to provide early information about the proposal, and outline opportunities to learn more and share feedback.

What is being proposed

The Colwood Garden Society, in partnership with the City, has proposed creating a Community Garden within Lagoon West Park. The idea is to develop a welcoming, community-oriented space that would include:

• Community garden plots for registered local residents
• A small gathering and education area with picnic tables
• Accessible garden beds and introductory plots for new gardeners

Next steps

At this stage, the Colwood Garden Society is working to gather input from the public about their proposal, before seeking support from Colwood Council in late 2026. Letters have been delivered to nearby homes. If Council indicates support, staff would work with the Colwood Garden Society and the community on the design and implementation details. No final design, layout construction timelines or final decisions will be made prior to public engagement and Council endorsement of the project.

This proposal is still in the early stages, and neighbourhood input is important. Opportunities to learn more and provide feedback will include:

• Community engagement events hosted by the Colwood Garden Society, including an information booth at the Lagoon Arts & Culture Festival on September 12 at Lagoon West Park
• Opportunities to contact City staff directly with questions or comments
