Help shape the future of Outlook Park

Created with community input, Colwood's first Parks & Recreation Master Plan was created in 2021 to protect and enhance Colwood's entire parks, trails and recreation system. From that, a series of Park Management Plans have been developed to guide recommended actions in specific areas.

A Park Management Plan is now being developed for Outlook Park to establish a long-term vision for the park to help guide future improvements that reflect its natural character and role within the community. The plan will explore how Outlook Park can be enhanced in the years ahead, while continuing to protect its steep slopes, forested areas, viewpoints, trails, and other valued natural features.

About Outlook Park

Outlook Park is a nature park and trail between Delora Drive and Wishart Road. The trail meanders through the woods and rocky outcrops to a spectacular viewpoint just up from Delora Drive. A series of steps lead down from the lookout in either direction.

In the Parks and Recreation Master Plan, Outlook Park is identified as a Nature Park, which provides the community with access to Colwood’s natural features and views, while preserving its ecology, wildlife habitat, watercourse, and environmental stewardship.

What could the plan consider?

Recreational use in nature parks is typically limited to passive enjoyment and pedestrian trails. In some cases, there are areas where access may be limited to protect natural features. Typical elements within a Nature Park include:

  • Forested and/or Riparian areas
  • Steep slopes and/or protected areas
  • Wildlife and ecological areas
  • Walking trails / staging areas for trails
  • Rest areas
  • Viewpoints
  • Educational / interpretive information
  • Benches or informal seating

Outlook Park includes many, but not all these features. The Park Management Plan can help guide additional or improved elements that could be thoughtfully incorporated into the park over time.

Considerations for Environmental Protection and Climate Action

Park Management Plans also consider climate-responsive park design. As part of the planning process, we're looking at opportunities to:

  • support climate-resilient landscaping and infrastructure
  • preserve and manage trees and natural areas
  • improvements to stormwater management
  • provide opportunities for environmental stewardship and education

We want to hear from you!
