Trialing a new School Zone on Benhomer Drive

As part of the City's Active Transportation Plan and with new sidewalks nearly ready for construction on Benhomer Drive, the City of Colwood is trialing a 30km per hour school zone on Benhomer Drive.

This new school zone supports Colwood’s Official Community Plan objectives of developing active and safe routes to schools for students and families, and builds on Colwood’s Strategic Priority of improving mobility and enhancing quality of life by working to create a safe, convenient and connected network of streets, sidewalks, trails and cycling routes for people of all ages and abilities.

This new school zone was also recommended through the CRD’s Ready Step Role initiative. Feedback from surveys and school area walkabouts with parents, students, school administration, school boards, ICBC, transportation planners and engineers identified the need for a school zone on Benhomer Drive to reduce speeds and provide a slow zone for kids drop off and active transportation.
