The City of Colwood is taking steps to make it safer, more comfortable, and more convenient for people to walk and cycle within our community.
Making it easier and more enjoyable for residents to walk or cycle for some of their daily activities is one way to:
support health, wellness and quality of life,
save money on personal transportation costs,
reduce traffic congestion, and
help our community reduce harmful emissions and reach our climate goals.
Safety encourages cycling
While some people are comfortable cycling alongside traffic, for others it's a barrier that discourages them from geting on their bike.
With that in mind, the City is piloting a protected cycling lane along Painter Road. We'll encourage community members to provide feedback about their experience of the changes. The feedback will inform next steps with respect to this pilot project and future cycling infrastructure design.
A summary report of community feedback will be presented at an upcoming Colwood Active Transportation Committee meeting, along with associated traffic and technical data. The Committee will have the opportunity to make a recommendation to Council based on the information recevied.
